AltAusterity to Host Second Workshop and Public Event

Initial research findings, deeper partnerships, and a panel on 'the role of government today'

Mar 18, 2018

Hello austerity readers! As you may have seen on our Twitter, the AltAusterity crowd is going to get together soon! This coming week the grant will host its second workshop, this time in Ottawa, Ontario. We will discuss initial research findings from the long term projects our team members are working on, and the theme of the workshop is 'impediments to change and how to overcome them'. These projects are all based on partnerships between our academic and NGO team members with a focus on developing actionable recommendations and impact. We will continue to convert longer outputs into shorter pieces and presentations to be featured on our site!

In addition, we are co-hosting a public event with one of our partners, the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA, https://www.policyalternatives.ca/). It will be a panel discussion entitled "Laissez-Faire or Leadership: What roles can government play in building an inclusive economy?" The participants include:

Dennis Howlett, Canadians for Tax Fairness

David Macdonald, CCPA

Heather Whiteside, University of Waterloo

Moderated by Gauri Sreenivasan, CCPA

If you're in Ottawa and interested, the event will be on March 22nd from 5:30-7:30 PM at 251 Bank St., 2nd floor. Here's the link to the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1979465345703724/

We'll have new content from this second workshop next week (hopefully!) to post on our site (https://altausterity.mcmaster.ca/)! To keep up with our work, you can subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on Twitter @AltAusterity and join the #altausterity conversation!
