Re-Purposing Public Enterprise

How might we re-purpose public enterprise in Canada?

Jun 09, 2020

Hello AltAusterity Readers! We hope you are finding time to enjoy the sunshine as we continue social distancing measures. This week we are bringing you a paper by Dr. Heather Whiteside (University of Waterloo) titled, "Re-Purposing Public Enterprise".

Heather presented this paper at our last meeting in February and asked us to consider what ideas, tools, and techniques are needed to move beyond privatization. Her paper explored the current and historical operation of Canadian Crown corporations in a range of socio-economic areas (relating to land, labour, capital, and infrastructure), and provides future strategies for revitalizing the purpose of public enterprise.

If you are interested in learning more about how we might re-purpose public enterprise in Canada, check out Heather's presentation paper on our Research Page under 'Spending, Reform, & Marketization'.

We'll post new content every other Tuesday morning and our AltAusterity Digest Friday mornings. To keep up with our work, you can subscribe to our newsletter or follow us on Twitter @AltAusterity and join the #altausterity conversation!
