How does austerity affect labour market inequality?

Nov 07, 2017

Good morning Austerity Readers! Today we have a presentation by Dr. John Peters (Laurentian University) on the state of labour market inequality in Canada. Dr. Peters utilizes custom data from the longitudinal Survey of Labour Income Dynamics (SLID) to illustrate the scope of low wage work in Canada, and then discusses social and institutional recognition of the problem on a global scale. He then outlines possible policy solutions to improve labour market outcomes, and many of them are undermined by fiscal consolidation.

You can find the presentation on our Research Page under 'Labour Markets and Lived Experience', and we'll release the full paper from John in the coming weeks.
