Age Friendly Communities or Austerity Friendly Communities?

Meghan Joy (Concordia) speaks on the layered interactions between austerity and social policy on aging

Jul 25, 2017

Hello Austerity readers!

Today we have a presentation from Meghan Joy, assistant professor at Concordia University (Montreal, Canada) on aging policy and austerity. Meghan presented her research on age friendly communities at our 2016 workshop in Hamilton, and discussed the different ways austerity fits into the picture. Dr. Joy speaks on the gap between the idea of age friendly cities and their implementation in Toronto, highlighting how social policy on aging remains beset with the challenges of a liberal welfare state under structural austerity.

You can find the full presentation on our Research Page under 'Spending, Reform, & Marketization'. Stay tuned for the full paper from Meghan Joy in the coming weeks.
